The Library is excited to announce that the construction of a green roof at the Library will commence in Spring 2025. This amazing investment in sustainable building and environmental protection has been made possible through a partnership with Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. The Green roof will slow the flow of storm water into the city combined sewer system, lowering the likelihood of sewer backup in the Blue Island Community, and will also assist in mitigating the effects of the urban heat island in the uptown area of Blue Island. The roof will be green and beautiful, and provide habitat for pollinators. And not least, will provide protection for the library building and collections for decades to come!
