Blue Island BioBlitz

Chicago Zoological Society will lead program participants in a citizen science assessment of nature and wildlife in their community. During this one-hour program, 20 participants will learn about wildlife such as pollinators, how to conduct a population survey, and will receive an overview of iNaturalist and Seek by iNatruralist applications. The class will then participate in a population survey using either the library grounds or a local nature area that is in walking distance. The iNaturalist and Seek by iNaturalist applications allow participants to take pictures in real time. The observations collected in “Seek” will contribute to citizen science or be used to improve the computer model of iNaturalist. Participants can earn badges for seeing different types of birds, amphibians, plants, and fungi and participate in monthly observation challenges ongoing. The class will culminate in the distribution of seed balls containing native wildflower seeds for each participant.
