BioBlitz–Represent the Blue Island Butterflies
This year, the Blue Island Library endeavors to rally the Blue Island Community to participate in the Illinois Monarch Project’s Wings of Dreams BioBlitz. The Wings of Dreams BioBlitz will be a competitive species count between participating members and overall against other individuals, families and organizations across Illinois.
Starting May 7th, individuals, families and organizations of Illinois will register to enter the event. June 20th through 26th, individuals, families and organizations enter observations by posting directly to the IMP Bioblitz 2022 iNaturalist page through the Seek app. https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/illinois-monarch-project-s-wings-of-dreams-bioblitz
Participants are eligible for a chance to win one of 3 coveted awards including most observations, most species, most observed species.
Along with our friends from Brookfield Zoo’s Communities & Nature program, we invite you to take part in this event in the hopes one of our community residents takes home one of the awards. In addition to the prizes awarded by the Illinois Monarch Project, any of our Blue Island community residents that win will be eligible for additional prizes such as badges for our summer reading program, passes to Brookfield Zoo and special Pollinator Patrol trading cards!
BioBlitz is a useful tool for understanding populations, rare species, and species diversity in our area! In addition to competing in a fun tournament, you are benefiting biologists around the world with your scientific data!
