Northstar Digital Literacy

Northstar Computer Classes

Through a grant from Age Options, the library is able to provide self-paced online computer classes to the community through Northstar.

About Northstar Computer Classes

Northstar Computer Classes are online, self-guided modules that cover Essential Computer Skills, Essential Software Skills, and Using Technology in Daily Life.

Signing up for an Account

Anyone can register for a Northstar account, but as part of the grant we are tracking users who are 60+. If you sign up for your own account, please let the library know so we can indicate it on the account. Once your information is entered in the Northstar system, you will receive an email to set-up your account

You can also have the library assist in creating your account by contacting Adult Services.

Using Northstar Computer Classes

  • Go to the Blue Island Public Library’s Northstar webpage.
  • Log in with your email and password.
  • Take an assessment test for the topic of your choice.
  • The assessment will help you focus on the things you still need to learn.  Don’t guess on the assessment.  If you don’t know an answer, click “I Don’t Know.”
  • Take the practice course at your own pace.
  • Retake the assessment when you are done taking the practice course to see your progress.
  • When you return to the Northstar website, you can login with your email address and password to pick up where you left off.
If you need help, Adult Services staff will be happy to assist.
