Circulation Services Manager-Full time

Blue Island Public Library is seeking an experienced Manager for our Circulation Services Department. The Circulation Manager will be a part of management team working together to serve the community from inside the library and out in the community. The Circulation Services desk is our patrons’ first point of contact when visiting the library, and successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to provide welcoming and proactive customer service to our diverse and growing patron population.

The Circulation Services Manager is responsible for staffing and training of Circulation Department staff and the processing and circulation of Library materials. Successful applicants will display excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, and the ability to work collaboratively with library administration and departments to further the library’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee processing, shelving and circulation of library materials including system delivery and interlibrary loan processing
  • Provide public service to library patrons with diplomacy and tact
  • Enforce library policy and procedures among staff and patrons
  • Supervise and schedule staff for public desk, train and develop department staff
  • Keep current on library trends and community needs, suggest improvements in service delivery
  • Act as primary contact for RAILS and SWAN library services
  • Collaborate with and coordinate library services with Management Team and staff; act as person in charge as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree desired
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer/basic office technology skills
  • 3-5 years of public library (or equivalent) experience desired
  • 2-3 years of supervisory/management experience preferred
  • Spanish language skills/fluency preferred

$20-$23 p/h start depending on experience/qualifications. Includes weekend and evening shifts. Generous benefits include paid holiday, sick time, vacation time, IMRF participation and health insurance.

Circulation Clerk-part time

Blue Island Public Library is seeking an individual to provide excellent customer service to our patrons from our Circulation Desk. We are looking for a person who enjoys working with the public and can easily switch between different tasks with accuracy, efficiency and diplomacy. This individual will perform all regular circulation services and front-desk duties as well as additional tasks as assigned, including shelving and materials processing assistance. Clerks provide patron services under the supervision of the Circulation Services Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • One year of library, public desk, and/or customer service experience preferred.
  • Spanish language skills highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with modern computing and technology necessary.
  • Able to work with flexible scheduling that may include day, evening, and weekend hours as determined by departmental needs.
  • Ability to maneuver book carts and mobility to assist patrons with copy/fax machine.

16-18 hours/wk, evening and weekend availability 

$12-$14 p/h start depending on experience/qualifications
