The Landscape of the Chicago Portage

Join an archaeologist from the Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS) to learn about the archaeology of the Chicago Portage area. Considered by some as Chicago’s “Plymouth Rock” this presentation will address the unique features this landscape offered to early travelers, in addition to archaeological sites associated with the area. A brief history exploring the mid-late 1970s excavations at the 1830s Laughton Trading Post will also be discussed.
